After you pass - step 2

How to Send Your NASCLA Electrical Score to a Licensing Board

Updated September 2026

You passed. The score report in your hand is real - but no board can see it yet. NASCLA's electrical exams work through an electronic transcript that you buy and NASCLA delivers. Here is the whole process, with the numbers straight from nascla.org.

Step by step

  • Create an account at ned.nascla.org using the exact name you tested under. If the names differ, the link will not happen and you will be emailing NASCLA support.
  • Wait. PSI uploads results within 72 hours; NASCLA then links them to your account within 48-72 business hours - about 5-6 business days total.
  • Buy one transcript per board. Pick the agency, pay $45, done. Applying to two boards means two transcripts.
  • Apply to the board. The transcript only tells the board you passed the trade exam. The application, the experience affidavit, the business-and-law exam and the insurance are still on you.

Two boards that work differently

Two boards in the electrical program do not accept incoming transcripts at all: Nebraska requires you to test in Nebraska through its own approved application, and Vanderburgh County, Indiana requires you to test locally in Evansville. If either is your target, the transcript step does not apply - read their state guides before you buy anything.

The two-year clock most people miss

Your score never expires, but the transcript is only visible to the board for two years from the day you bought it. If you are not licensed in that state within two years, the board can no longer see it and you buy it again. Buy transcripts when you are ready to file, not for boards you are merely thinking about. Some boards also cap how old a passing score can be when you apply - Kentucky's page, for example, mentions a window; confirm with your board.

Next: which license are you applying for?

Journeyman and master licenses are personal. The electrical contractor license belongs to a business with you as its qualifier - and that changes the order of everything that follows.
